Biografia del Grupo
La charanga HAVANA SOUL tuvo sus comienzos en la ciudad de Miami hace aproximadamente unos ocho años.
Fue idea de su Director, el Maestro Frank Díaz, al querer revivir,y mantener viva la música Cubana de los años 40 y 50,
considerada como la Epoca de Oro de la música Cubana.
El Maestro Díaz, tuvo sus comienzos a la temprana edad de 4 años en Cuba siendo el niño cantante del popular grupo español,
“Los Gracias.” A esa corta edad, el gran productor Gaspar Pumarejo lo llevó en una extensa gira por toda la isla de Cuba donde
se presentó con grandes éxitos culminando la gira en el Hotel Internacional de Varadero. Participó en varias producciones musicales
teatrales siendo niño, y se presentó durante su juventud en varios shows en clubes nocturnos de La Habana y de toda Cuba hasta llegar
a los Estados Unidos en el año 1992.
En el 1992 se presenta en Miami para concursar en “La Voz ACCA del 1992” y gana el primer lugar entre más de 200 concursantes
interpretando un tema de el gran Beny Moré, “Amor Fugaz.”
Toca el acordeón a la maestría y su sueño sería concursar en Roma, Italia para el galardón del “Mejor Acordeonista del Mundo”,
concurso auspiciado por la compañía musical, Roland, donde ya ha sido aceptado como concursante.
En el 2001 reune a unos amigos músicos de gran trayectoria musical, -- como el conguero Freddy Cruz, que acompañó a la gran Celia Cruz,
Felipe Ramos, Director de la Charanga Casino de Nueva Jersey—y el gran flautista oriental Pepin Santos junto a otros musicos maestros nace la charanga HAVANA SOUL.
HAVANA SOUL ha compartido escenarios con Oscar D’León, Willy Chirino, Albita, y muchos otros grandes de la música. Lo mismo
interpretan una guaracha, que un son, un guagancó que un danzón, una conga que un cha cha chá, en sí, interpretan TODOS los ritmos
que componen la música Cubana.
Cuando HAVANA SOUL interpreta su música, todos salen a bailar, a recordar y a cantar esas inolvidables canciones que le dieron la
vuelta al mundo — porque ellos son ….HAVANA SOUL, el Alma de La Habana……
Group Biography
HAVANA SOUL had its’ beginning in the city of Miami approximately eight years ago.
The idea to form a band came to Director Frank Díaz after he decided to revive the Cuban music of the 1940s and 1950s known as the
“Golden Age of Cuban Music” when the cha cha chá, the mambo, the rumba, the conga, the danzón, and many other rhythms went around the world!
Maestro Díaz began his career at the age of four in Cuba when he was selected to be the child singer of the well-known Spanish musical group, “Los Gracias.” At that young age, well-known Cuban producer, Gaspar Pumarejo, had him tour the entire island of Cuba from one end to the other finalizing the tour at the world-famous International Hotel in Varadero Beach. He made appearances in musicals, in the theater, on radio and television programs during his childhood until he came to live in the United States in 1992.
In 1992 he becomes a contestant in the contest named “Voz ACCA 1992” (a predecessor to American Idol in the Spanish world) and wins first place after competing with over 200 contestants. He won with Beny Moré’s song: “Amor Fugaz.”
He is a master accordionist and next year he wants to compete in Rome, Italy for the title “The Best Accordionist in the World” sponsored by the musical giant, “Roland.”
In 2001 he gets together with musician friends with great musical backgrounds and HAVANA SOUL is born. Among them are conga player Freddy Cruz who played with the great Celia Cruz (no relation) many times. Also, Felipe Ramos, Director of New Jersey’s famed Charanga Casino and the great flutist from Oriente, Pepin Santos.
HAVANA SOUL has shared stages with Oscar D’León, Willy Chirino, Albita, and many other greats of the musical world. HAVANA SOUL performs ALL the rich and many rhythms of Cuban music, along with many other musical genres.
When HAVANA SOUL plays its’ music, everyone wants to dance ‘till the early hours, some just sit, sing along, listen, and dream to the songs that made the entire world dance during Cuba’s Golden Age of Music. That is why they are HAVANA SOUL….the essence of Havana.
